Here we have a complete kit for a Winson/Modelworks 5″ LNER A4, 'Sir Nigel Gresley'. It was purchased brand new by it’s previous owner directly from Winson, and was checked off at the time as each kit arrived to make sire it was all there. We obviously can't 100% guarantee that everything is there, because checking it all in detail is such a long task. But it has a one owner history and we've checked all the big bits and it certainly looks to us as described.
A few bits have been assembled, mostly just the bare frames and a little of the streamlined casing. The majority of the boxes have only been opened to check their contents against the check lists. The factory certificated boiler is of course brand new professionally silver soldered and still in it's factory bubble wrap!
We've only seen a handful of Modelworks/Winson A4s built up, as there weren't many at all manufactured. But they can certainly be built up into nicely running models. It's never going to be a simple 'bolt it all together and it'll run' job, but all the well known issues and necessary tweaks not withstanding, there's the foundations of a good engine in the boxes waiting to be put together.
